Costa Rica Teen Adventure Program

Day 1: July 23rd -------- Arrive and Stay in Central Valley (CRR Base Camp)

Today all campers will be met outside of the airport by our camp staff. We will have a very nice welcome at the CRR base camp and a large group dinner to break the ice for everyone and get everyone geared up for the next six days of adventure. (Meals: Dinner)

Day 2: July 24th --------  Enter Cave Hiking (Sleep behind Waterfall)

Today we will be getting an early start. We plan on leaving the base-camp at around 6am to drive down the Coastal Highway and then in to one of the central mountain ranges. When we get to where the bus can go no more it will be time to get our hiking gear out and hike into one of the most scenic areas in all of Costa Rica. Surrounded by nature and beautiful waterfalls all around, the kids will get a true feel for back-packing through the jungle. When we arrive we will have a lunch planned for the kids. Day 3: July 25th -------- Rappel Waterfall & Hike to Pools (Sleep behind Waterfall)

Get ready for some adventure as we plan to rappel a 150ft waterfall. This is a beautiful fall and the rappel will surely get the adrenaline pumping. After the rappel we will make our way to the tallest waterfall in all of Costa Rica which is called Diamante Falls a 600ft fall. We will arrive to a panoramic viewing area at the top of the falls. After lunch the kids will hike up to the pools at the top of the cavern and visit more waterfalls and also enjoy some swim-time in the pools. The evening will be filled with camp games, music, and bonfires. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)

Day 4: July 26th - Hike out of Cave and Drive to Costa Rican Homestay (Homestay Sitio de Mata)

Today we hike out of the cave and drive over Costa Rica's tallest mountain range which measures 12,000ft above sea-level in a country that is only 60 miles wide it make for some spectacular views of both coasts. The best part of today is to come when we arrive at the village of Sitio de Mata. Here the kids will see the best part about Costa Rica -- its people. We will be staying in two homes the guys in one home and the girls in another. The local village is going to put on quite the presentation for us as they show us the local dance, music, food, and even teach us how to do some of the dance moves. Day 5: July 27th -------- Eco-Project & Enter Pacuare River (Camp at River)

Before we get on this amazing adventure we will make a visit to a nearby farm where we are trying to get as many trees planted as possible. We will educate the kids on the importance of this and also allow them to plant a tree which will be tagged with their names. After we plant the trees we will visit the river National Geographic has listed as one of the top 5 rivers on the planet, the Pacuare River. This is an amazing day and we will be spending two days in the river. The first day we will spend around 2 hours rafting. We will leave the village after breakfast and say our good-byes to some of the friends we have made and then put in the river and make our way down to the camp site. We will stop for some hikes and lunch along the way and then get to the camp-site around 3pm. The kids can just relax for a bit and then we'll take the teachable moment before dinner and talk to the kids about the importance of protecting our environment and how it benefits all of us. The evening will be filled with camp games and music. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)

Day 6: July 28th -------- More Rafting and Drive to Central Valley (CRR Base Camp)

 We will raft the Pacuare Canyon which has some nice little rapids. The scenery is absolutely beautiful and we will make a stop along the way to hike to another beautiful waterfall and then it is through the rapids. After we finish the river we will get some lunch and make our way back to the CRR Base Camp in the Central Valley where we will have a special dinner planned for the kids. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)

Day 7: July 29th -------- Fly Home!

Today depending on the flight time we will be making a number of different trips to the airport.

Cost: $1150/camper
Includes: All tours and adventures, all lodging, all transportation (international airfare not included) all food, 24 hour supervision on a 1 adult to every 4 camper ratio

Costa Rica Teen Summer Camp


Costa Rican Resource is offering a Eco-Adventure Teen Summer Camp for young adults that want to get out and be surrounded by nature and around some of the top teaching professionals in their field. This camp will be offered with CRR staff members on hand 24 - 7. It is a 16 day course. The campers will receive instruction in Wilderness First Aid and Vertical Rescue and will be certified under the Rescue 3 Certificates which is an internationally qualified adventure course teaching program. All campers will have a written and a practical tests if they interested in receiving the certificate.

These certificates of WFA (Wilderness First Aid) and Vertical Rescue Course (Rappeling Course) will be excellent on a college application. Note: The rafting course will be given but will not be certified by Rescue 3 this is just to give the kids some experience on the different events of rafting and also make it fun and more time to concentrate on the eco-side of this camp with our time at the river campsite.

Our goal of this camp is to not just give the kids a vacation but a chance to accomplish through hard work knowledge, certificates, and a love for nature by getting the kids out into nature and surround them with it, teach them about it, and then teach them the importance of living simply and conscience of how to live your day to day life with regards to thinking of the beauties of nature even though back home they might not be surrounded by nature to have that reminder. 

There will be different Eco-educational activities and 6 evening lectures educating the kids on the environment and ways they can help. 

Requirements for Campers:

* Must abide by CRR Camper Code of Conduct
* Must be able to swim
* Must have the ablility to hike 1 mile of incline
* Age limit must be in high school

Day 1: June 25th ------------- Arrival Day and Teens Arrive to CRR Base Camp (CRR Base Camp)

Today members of the camp will be met at the airport by one of their full time adventure guides who will transport them to the CRR Base Camp where staff members will welcome them. Arrival needs to be to the San Jose airport for this camp. Our Base Camp is located at the beautiful Arenal Volcano. We have beautiful cabins with amazing views of the volcano. (Meals: Dinner)

Day 2: June 26th ------------- Arrivals and Orientation at CRR Base Camp (CRR Base Camp)

Today is a second day of arrival and if you use this day for arrival we ask that you try and come on an early flight. We will begin orientation after lunch today using the afternoon for the kids to get to know each other and get an idea of how the camp will run. We'll go over rules and regulations, student code of conduct, and the goals we hope to reach during this eco-adventure camp for teens. Those that arrived on day 1 can visit the La Fortuna Falls for a morning activity with a CRR guide.  (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)

Day 3: June 27th ------------- Begin Wilderness First Aid Courses (CRR Base Camp)

Today we will wake up early and begin the WFA class. This is an internationally certified WFA class. WFA stands for Wilderness First Aid and it is the basic instructions of how to treat injuries in the wilderness. This is a great course for anyone to have and also goes great on a college resume. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)

Day 4: June 28th ------------- Wilderness First Aid Course (CRR Base Camp)

Today the course continues with the more instruction on the subject of WFA. During the course the days will be broken up with snacks, nice meals, and evening of fun and games to take the mind off the studying. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)

Day 5: June 29th ------------- Wilderness First Aid Course (CRR Base Camp)

Today the kids will continue to study the Wilderness First Aid and they should begin to become experts on the subjects. 

Day 6: June 30th ------------- Finish Wilderness First Aid Course (CRR Base Camp)

Today we will finish the Wilderness First Aid course. This will be the day of the exam and certificates certified by Rescue 3 will be awarded to students. We plan on celebrating in the evening with a little party as we will have come to the completion of their first course. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)

Day 7: July 1st ----------------  Drive to Turrialba & Visit Village (Turrialba River Lodge)

Today we will travel to Turrialba. We will not get an early start as we want the kids to get a good night sleep. When we drive to the river lodge we will be stopping by a local village where we plan on having lunch and watching the local village put on a show for us. In this village we are going to show how the locals have used recycled goods in many of their everyday lives and the amazing mix of simplicity with happiness.  This is a real treat and a chance to enjoy the culture. We will spend the night in a lodge near the river and get ready for our rafting adventure. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)

Day 8: July 2nd --------------- Enter River Pacuare (Pacuare Camp)

Today we enter what National Geographic has listed as one of the top five rivers in the world. While in the Pacuare area we'll be learning about the rainforest and the bio-diversity of Costa Rica. We will enjoy a river lunch with the kids and go over the basics of rafting. We will raft to the first camp and arrive after lunch in the afternoon and have time to show up and enjoy dinner and games. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 9: July 3rd ---------------- Rafting Intro-Course (Pacuare Camp)

Today we will put our lifevest and helmets back on and then head out to the river which they had the chance to listen to all night. The kids will learn today everything they need to know to be safe in the river. What to do and what not to do. They will also be put to the test in some small rapids. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)

Day 10: July 4th ------------- Morning Rafting and Afternoon Education on Rainforest (Pacuare Camp)

In the morning it is back to the river. We plan on doing some more advanced river rescue. In the afternoon we'll be learning more about the rainforest and the purpose it serves in the world. This will also involve a lecture on the importance of trying to live more green in our everyday lives and ways to make it easy. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)

Day 11: July 5th --------- Raft to Second Camp Site & Hike to Waterfalls (Pacuare Second Camp)

Today we will raft through a beautiful canyon to our second campsite. Before we get to the second camp we will stop the rafts and take a hike up through the rainforest to visit some of the most pristine waterfalls in all of Costa Rica. This is a great area for the kids to enjoy the jungle and  just relax. We want the kids to be completely immersed in nature today as they will be the entire week but also with not much else on their minds. Today is a no study day, no lecture day, just nature! (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)

Day 12: July 6th ------------- Raft Pacuare to take-out (Lodge in Mountains)

Today we will raft out of the Pacuare and take on some of it's best class IV rapids. This is about two hours of rafting today and when we get to the take out we will take a drive over Costa Rica's Talamanca Mountain range. Here we'll stay in a lodge that is at an elevation of around 11,000ft. This is a great experience and the kids can enjoy the fire for the evening. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)

Day 13: July 7th ------------- Enter Cave and start Vertical Rescue Course (The Cavern)

Today we will enter the cavern and begin our Vertical Rescue Course. This will just be an intro to the course as we will be spending most of our day hiking into the cavern. This is an amazing hike and well worth the effort. When we arrive we will have an nice big meal waiting for us right in the cave. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)

Day 14: July 8th ------------- Vertical Rescue Course (The Cavern)

Today is a full day of Vertical Rescue Course. We plan on doing rappels off the many different waterfalls in the area and the kids will have to learn a number of different knots for the course. This again is a certified Rescue 3 course and the kids will have certifications that are recognized internationally. Also looks great on a college resume. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)

Day 15: July 9th ------------- Vertical Rescue Course (The Cavern)

Today the kids will continue their course on vertical rescue and also enjoy some hikes to the pools in the area. When they visit the pools in the area. The course today will get intense also as the kid have to be able to set up their rappel, check equipment, put on harnass, connect themselves, and make the rappel. We will go over a number of different ways for the rappel during this day. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)

Day 16: July 10th ------ Finish Course and Travel to CRR Base Camp near airport (Airport Hotel)

We will hike out of the cave today and return to the Central Valley via the Pacific coastline. The kids will have an hour or so to put their feet in the Pacific. put us close to the airport for San Jose depatures. All the campers will leave with their certifications and be listed in the Rescue  3 directory as being certified technicians. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner)

Day 17: July 11th ----- Fly Home!


After a celebration of being in nature for two weeks we will say our good byes and wish everyone the best of luck with all their new skills.
